I went to our village carol service this morning even though I was still nonplussed about it having been moved as UK was planned to be in World Cup this times would clash. They were pushed out but still our service was rearranged.

Anyway it felt so weird. I am the only non done parishioner. I felt no joyousness that I usually feel from our carol service from years past. And I’ve been going to this church nearly 20 years. The female vicar exclaimed that she was happy that Joseph was standing near Mary as last year they were far apart. Her joke was - Rule of 6 as in 6 feet apart and visitors only up to 6 in total. (I ignored it all).

So yeah. Weird. It did not feel surreal. It felt empty. I know, the celebration of Christ’s birth had been moved By the Church to coincide with Pagan German, Norse and Druid winter solstice. But celebrating our Saviour - that the darkness does not overwhelm, remains celebratory.

As for some I know getting it - was from pressure at work. For one it was to ptoutvy her pension but then she helped make permanently comfortable those she witnessed were DNAR’d.
